The Perfect End to Day One

Whenever I prepare for my Spiritual Traveler adventures, I always research my destinations on the Internet. Google is my friend, but even Google does not go far enough. Some of the most interesting events are those in which you can meet up with fellow Spiritual Travelers on their own turf. For example, when my friend Donna and I went on a road trip to Norfolk, Virginia to the annual Afterlife Conference, we wanted to do something special during our brief overnight stopover in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.

On Meetup, we found out that a group called Pittsburgh Transmission Meditation would be holding its weekly 7 pm meditation at the Friends Meeting House, which was close to our hotel. I signed us up and our experience with this group of dedicated meditators gave us a chance to refresh our souls. We sat in silent meditation with a group that comes together each week for a Transmission Meditation. This is a form of service that uses meditation to generate energy that helps heal the world.

This banner was displayed at the Friends Meeting House in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where the weekly Transmission Meditations take place. Transmission Meditation is not directly affiliated with Quakerism. However, as this banner indicates, the goals are similar

We spent a fruitful evening in silent meditation with these inspiring beings who use the Transmission form of meditation to transmit spiritual energies designed to stimulate human evolution and development in the right direction. Through these weekly meditations, energies are transmitted that nourish and transform our world for the better.

And this is not just a Pittsburgh thing. There are Transmission Meditation groups that meet in many cities around the world. I’m no expert at this particular type of meditation, so I’ll let the Pittsburgh Transmission Meditation Group website (see Resources) explain:

“Transmission is a wonderful meditation which has a different purpose than other meditations. Its purpose is to bring healing transformative energies into the world. It couldn’t be simpler. Our group comes together and sounds The Great Invocation – a prayer given to the world in 1945 which essentially says “let light and love and power restore the plan on earth”. As we recite this mantra, automatically through the law of invocation/evocation, these energies flow through the group then out into the world stepped down to a lower level so that the energies are more usable to more. It is a real service to perform and if you do so, your own life will be transformed. Why? Because you cannot open yourself to these spiritual energies and have them flow through you without having yourself blessed. We do it for service, but Transmission Meditation has this wonderful secondary effect on the people who participate. If you believe in a spiritual world and that energies condition all life, Transmission Meditation is a wonderful complimentary practice. We’re told hour for hour there is nothing better we could do for the world.”

It was the perfect end to a very spiritual day.
